About this Product

A classic design basket weave belt. Dress up your look or wear everyday. My belts are meticulously hand stamped, not roller embossed cheapness. Available in Angled, Horizontal, or Arrowhead pattern. Border can by dyed brown or black. The back is slicked and sealed in natural leather color. I make my belts from full grain Hermann Oak leather in a heavy 8-10 oz thickness for a durable product that will last. These are 1 1/2 inch wide belts.

Please measure your belt size correctly. I need to know the length in inches from the bend of the beld (where it wraps around the buckle) to the hole you currently use. This is you belt size. Please measure. Do not go off memory, guesses, pant size, or vanity.

These belts are made to order and may take 1-2 weeks to ship. I always try to ship as fast as possible.

Meet the Maker

Hello and welcome to Cowdog Leather. I'm a one man shop on the Front Range of Northern Colorado. I enjoy doing custom projects and designs so if you have something in mind, please message me. I make everything by hand. No laser engraving, no embossing with a press or roller. Everything is hand tooled, and hand stitched.

I am a NICU nurse in Northern Colorado, so I love that Goimagine donates their profits to childrens charities. I am married with 3 wonderful kids. We enjoy exploring and playing in the Colorado outdoors. We like to go hunting, fishing, hiking, snowboarding, and just relaxing and enjoying the western US. Thanks for looking and please let me know if I can make a project come to life for you.

How it’s Made

After the belt blank is cut to size, a border is scribed along the edges.  A swivel knife is use to cut the border then the border is beveled twice,  a quarter inch at a time.  The basket weave pattern is then layed out and hand stamped down the entire length of the belt followed by the scalloped edges.  After drying the leather is oiled, dyed, and the first coat of finish is applied.  Antique paste is used to fill in the tooling to provide contrast and make the pattern stand out.  Then a final coat of finish is applied.  The edges are rounded and burnished as is the back of the belt.  A final coat of wax based polish is added for shine and protection and your belt is ready for wear.

FAQ:

  • Why does my leather have a wrinkle here or there? Why does the color not look like what I was on the website?

    • Leather is a natural product and may have blemishes, wrinkles, and imperfections such as bug bites or barbed wire scars.  Every piece of leather can and does vary. I use the best quality full grain leather from Hermann Oak and do my best to work around these imperfections but in the end I consider these to be beauty marks and an indication of a natural handmade product.  I also paint and dye my pieces by hand.  Each hide also accepts paints and dye a little differently so colors may vary from item to item,  in different lights, and on different screens.

  • Why are you so expensive?

    • You get what you pay for.  Retail belts are usually low quality, mass produced, & roller stamped or impressed with a machine.  My items are made from high quality leather, hand cut, hand stitched, and meticulously hand tooled one at a time by yours truly.  I strive to produce quality products and western art that you will want to show off to your friends.

  • How do I measure my belt size?

    • This is THE most important part of ordering a custom belt.  The best way to measure your belt size is to take a belt you currently wear and measure from the bend (where the belt folds around the buckle) to the hole you currently wear that belt at. That is your current belt size.  Do not go off pant size, or memory, or what you think your waist size should be (we all think it should be less than it actually is), measure it.  I cannot issue a refund if you provide me with an incorrect size.

  • Does the buckle style affect my belt size?

    • Yes, is the short answer.  Bigger buckle = shorter belt.  A wide trophy buckle takes up more real estate compared to a standard buckle. So if your are changing buckles or buckle styles, your belt size can vary by 1-2 inches. If this is the case, just let me know and I will make the adjustment.
